hi, I have a little doubt in basics.I am not able to understand what is charge.How can an individual charge exist.A charge means an atom which is either deficient in electrons(-ve) or excess in electrons(+ve).But an atom can not exist as such.and how does charge transfer take place.

Charge is not an atom. Rather, its a property by virtue of which electromagnetic interactions take place.
