Electromagnetic radiation, especially visible radiation, of only one frequency or wavelength. Completely monochromatic radiation cannot be produced, but lasers produce radiation within a very narrow frequency band. Compare polychromatic radiation

The term ‘monochromatic’ is derived from Greek words mono and chroma. Mono means ‘single’ and chromo means ‘colour’.In other words, the meaning of monochromatic radiation is radiation of single colour. Speaking scientifically, it is radiation with a single wavelength or frequency.
No source of electromagnetic radiation is purely monochromatic. Very controlled light sources like LASERS operate in a range of limited frequency.
