f = + 12 cm.
Here,
m = v/u
= v/u = 3
= v = 3u
And
By the lens formula,
1/v - 1/u = 1/f
= 1/3u - 1/u = 1/f
= (1 - 3)/3u = 1/f
= - 2/3u = 1/f
Here, f = 12 cm
So, = -2/3u = 1/12
= 3u = - 24
u = - 8 cm
Here, v = 3u = - 24 cm.
Distance between object and image = - 8 - 24 = - 32 cm.
