The voltage developed in the inductor is due to the rate of change of current flowing through it. It follows Lenz's law i.e opposes the cause producing it. If the current is increasing with time the inductor will act so as to decrease it, and if the current is decreasing with time the inductor will act so as to increase it. From that you decide the sign of the induced voltage.
