general equation for current in any AC circuit is given by

I  = Iosinwt

 

after half cycle phase difference is changed by 180o so

I = Iosin(180+wt)

  =-Iosinwt                           [sin180+@ = -sin@]

 

this means direction is reverse of initial direction ....
