Dear nikhil ,

when you close the switch hte current takes some time to build in the circuit and rate is say R.  due o this rate of growth the flux increases and emf is induced. when you open the switch , there is no path for current to flow , so it suddenly drops to zero unlike in closing case.So , rate of decrease of current or flux  is much more in openning than in closing. so , EMF induced is more.
