The answer is NO. because its axis will neither cut the horizontal nor the vertical axis of the earth's magnetic field as it is falling in the plane of magnetic meridian

Dear student
In the magnetic meridian the magnetic field always remain parallel to the plane if put vertical plane parallel to magnetic meridian and drop a rod/pole in this, then there is no net flux through this plane hence no emf is induced
Good Luck
