When two spherical conducting balls at different potentials are attached by a metallic wire the current starts decreasing from maximum to zero why?

If two different potential surface are connected by a conducting wire then charge will flow from higher potential to lower potential that is current will flow and it will flow till both surface become equipotential .and if once surface become equipotential then there will be no potential difference and hence no charge will flow that is no current will flow ..
