Kindly give the question , beacuse i donot think that there will be such a circuit in which the battery arm doenot have any current with it , beacuse current have a specified direction , and it cannot move in random , if that happens then what it is asking to calculate ?? if resistance , then apply the kirchoff law , donot take current their, and find it .
and such thing happens in the case of WHEATSTONE BRIDGE , in which the middle arm doesnot have current flowing in it , so, u can ignore that arm whicle calculating the resistance ..
HOPE IT CLEARS YOUR DOUBT
KINDLY GET BACK WITH THE FULL QUESTION WHERE U ENCOUNTERED SUCH TYPE OF THING . ..
