Fuse is a wire added to an electrical circuit to limit to current to a maximum value. The fuse wire has a very low melting point so when the current goes beyond a particular maximum value, the fuse wire melts hence the circuit becomes incomplete and current stops flowing.
This is done to prevent damage to devices connected to electrical circuits which can have a specific upper limit of current.
I hope that helps :)
