when potential difference is provided at the end of the wire (in the presence of electric field) the velocity achieved by
the electron in that situation is drift velocity.
and in the absence of electric field the velocity of electron is termed as thermal velocity .
the total(average) thermal velocity of all the electrons is zero.

Drift velocity of electrons means the average velocity attained by electron in the presence of electric field. The unit for drift velocity of electrons is the same as velocity which is m/s.For example, in copper, its value is 2.3× 10^5 m/s.It can be calculated by many formulas like:-D.V= Electron Mobility × Electron FieldHere, E.M have unit [m²/(V•S)] and electron field having unit (V/m)
