The potentiometer measures the exact value of emf
(as no current flows through the battery while measuring the emf)
1.4=i(280)1.4=i(280)
⇒i=0.005A⇒i=0.005A
V=E–irV=E–ir
Hence r=30ohmsr=30ohms
 
Two options are correct – emf of battery is 1.55 V and the internal resistance of the battery is 30 ohms.
