Dear student
 
if we open this circuit
 
then
 
R || (R and R in series) || (R and R in series) || R
 
hence equivalent resistance
 
 = R || 2R || 2R ||R
 
1 / Rnet = 1 / R + 1/2R + 1/2R + 1/R
 
1 / Rnet = 2 + 1 + 1 +2 / 2R
 
1/ Rnet = 6 / 2R
 
Rnet  = R/3

Initial five resistance are short circuited so they don’t work.
So equivalent resistance between A and B is R.
