This question is really very easy.
THE CONCEPT: In series combination, the equivalent resistance is more than the highest resistance and in parallel combination, the equivalent resistance is less than the lowest.
SOLUTION: This is a parallel combination, so the equivalent is less than the lowest. In other words, each of the two resistances must be more than the equivalent resistance which is given as 6 ohm. So, 1 ohm, 5 ohm and 4 ohm cannot be the answer. Hence the answer is 8 ohm. The currect option is (3) 8 ohm.
