A linear circuit can contain independent voltage and current sources. Roughly speaking, a linear circuit is one whose parameters do not change with voltage or current. More specifically, a linear system is one that satisfies:

  1. Homogeneity property
  2. Additive property

until and unless the values of the voltage and current source do not change the circuit is said to be linear. Linear dependent sources can also be present in a linear network.
