Electric current does not flow through hollow pipes or through vaccuum. It flows through solid conductors(ususally metals.) {NOTE:- actually it doesnot flow, only the energy is transfered from one free electron to another, just like domino}.
But since these are solid, some amount of energy is required to break through the soild and to escape the gravity of the atoms. Let''s take an example. Suppose you are standing in a crowd. You have ten friends of yours in a line. you have to pass a package from you to the last friend. iinstead of going through the crowd, you will pas this packages to your adjacent freind, who will pass it to the next friend. But still, you will face difficulty to move or to pass the package through the crowd. Similar is the case with the electrisl energy passing through substances.
Now, it will be easier to pass through a less dense crowd, or if the no. of your friends increases. Similar is the case with the electrical energy. if the no. of free electrons in a substance is low, or its density is high, it will obstruct the path of the electrical energy more.
This "Resistance" to the electric flow while flowing through a substance is know as the resistance of the circuit. Even the best conductor would have resistance, after all, it is also kmatter and has density. But this resistance will be very low as compared to other substances (in negative powers of 10).
