hi, in a practical of electronics in engg 1st year about study of half wave rectifier why is there a difference in output voltage on cro when a diode is connected in series with resistance and when capacitor is introduced parallel to resistance

the capaicitor at the output acts as low pass filter, to remove the noise and harmonics, we use the capacitor , capicitor help to make the waveform smooth.
