Dropping an year for preparation of JEE is more than enough for getting a good score. But only if you don`t waste your time and focus only on studies, then only you may get a good AIR in ADVANCED. I would suggest that if you have applied for other examinations, try your best in them and if selected, do not drop. BITSAT gives you an institute paralleled to the IIT`s. Sticking to your question , Yes a year is sufficient for getting good marks in IIT examinations. But there are conditions.(mentioned above)
