the reaction in its balenced form can be written as:
CO...+(1/2)O2.......... .>CO2...+heat(X)
the heat of formation of pure elements in its natural form is assumed to be zero. So heat of formation of oxygen=0
Now applying the energy conservation,
ECO+0=ECO2+....X
from here we can have the value of X=(94-26)kcal
