IIST exam has almost same level as IIT-JEE exam

In my opinion , looking past pattern, you should concentrate on physics (very imp), Maths (easy than IITJEE), chemistry (try hands on organic chemistry).

About books, I would suggest you that you must follow the same books as in IIT-JEE because they seem to be on same level. Actually , if you prepare for IIT-JEE , you wont have much problem for IIST exam.
