If the xy graph is to be plotted of a function , then no variable can be called dependant or independant because if x is a function of y , then y is also a function of x. Both can be related to each ofher and both are dependent of each other.

Dear Shivani, normally or you can say conventionally we take the the x axis as independent func. such as time etc. and in the y axis we take the dependent func. eg. displacement. BUt its not true always. eg. BLACK BODY RADIATION GRAPH. the x axis(WAVELENGTH OF EMITTED LIGHT) varies with respect to the increse or decrease of y axis(INTENSITY). Hope i helped you. Regards
