I got a reactant in NCERT book as R-OH, and ma'm wrote the same as RCH2OH. Are the both ways same? If yes, why?

both are primarily meaning same..what your mam wrote is also correct....where the difference comes is that RCH2OH has one carbon extra than ROH..other than that,when you solve any examples you can take anything...

for example...

CH3-CH2-OH which can be written as ROH..where R is CH3CH2-

you can also wite as RCH2OH where R is CH3-

The only difference between the two is that when we write as R-CH2OH then we mean that there should be an α hydrogen atom present. While when we write R-OH, it mean that presence of an α hydrogen atom is not necessary.
