hi i m going to attempt the jee in 2010....... cud u pls advise me about: *process of counselling * choice of branch * will my prep for jee suffice for BIT SAT pls help...........

Dear Rishab,

Process of counselling : -

1. Students are ranked according to their performance ( score ) at JEE exam.
   
2. A selected no. of students are displayed in merit list ( 10000 ) and a selected no. of students in extended merit list ( EML ) ( 60,000 this time )
   
3. The merit list students are called for counseeling for 8628 seats compirising all the IITs and ISM dhanbad and IT-BHU.
   
4. The students are required to fill a form during counselling cosisting of 100 choices of his/hers of the courses with the colleges he/she would like to pursue.
   
5. These forms are fed into the computer and the seats are allocated to the students rankwise in their prefernace of seats.
   
6. Those students who dont get any of the seats there are called for counselling along with the EML students for IIST, IISER and RGPIT.
   

Choice of branch : -

Students generally go with the best college or the best branch.

The order in which the college gets filled are as follows : -

1. Bombay
   
2. Delhi
   
3. Kanpur
   
4. Kharagpur
   
5. Madras
   
6. Roorkee
   
7. IT-BHU
   
8. Guwhati
   
9. ISM Dhanbad
   

The order in which the branches gets filled are as follows :

1. Comp. Sc.
   
2. Electrical
   
3. Mechanical
   
4. Chemical
   
5. Civil
   

If you really want to get into good IIT with a good branch you need to get a rank i. e. lesser than 2000

Regarding BITSAT, ya you prep for IIT would be sufficient.
