The normal force between two surfaces is increased by four times. The coefficient of static friction will? Ans. Remain the same. My doubt is, isn’t static friction a self adjustable friction? So won’t it become 1/4 times the original?

Dear student,
Please elaborate as to how you can increase the normal reaction. Normal reaction is the force a surface exerts on a body when the body is kept on the surface. It is a reactive force not an active force. Now the static friction depends on the surface of contact and the normal reaction, so it cant change on its own.
