I have just finished my 12th grade and would appear for iit jee in 2011.How should my preparation be ?

Should I join a college here and then prepare for iit jee or should I join a full time coaching centre without joining the college?

I am going to class 12 now so i wont be able to give expert advice but some of my friends are going to drop a year and give iit-jee in 2012.They wont join college instead focus on their preparation.This is what is generally done.
