when should we start IIT preparation? From 11th or is it ok if we start from 12th? Is it required to go for a coaching class for IIT? is it not ok if we study hard from home?

Fitst I will suggest you to join any coaching classes.Because as you are preapearing for IIT JEE then you will face a tough comptition.

coaching classes can guide in a better way.

from 11th standard is the best time to start prepration for IIT JEE.beause now IIT JEE has limited number of attempt ,you can attemp only two time one with 12th and one just after the 12th.

and regarding the self study.certainly you can do self study.but if you will do self study then you will miss lot of concept which s not well explained in the books.and it will affect on your final result.
