Hi i am studying in 10 standard and joined in fiit-jee this year. please can i know if i have started my preparations a bit late, as i have heard that preparations have to start from 9th standard itself.

you are not at all late. Jus start studying from and keep ur main focus on IIT JEE preparation.. 9th and 10th standard are the base or u can say the foundation for making a career .. start reading your course books with interest .. and make your base strong .. Practise maths alot and also study science wth concentration and and try to imagine the real life implementation of science topics..
