What does “divisible by” mean? I know it sounds a stupid question, but what does this term exactly mean.

Dear Student,

Its good that you are clearing this out because a lot of students remin confused in this.
Ok,let me explain you with an example.

Suppose, 4 is divisible by 2.
that means if I divide 4 by 2 i will get remainder as 0.
or in other words, 4 is a multiple of 2.

So, if n is divisible by m

→ n is a multiple of m.

Thanks

term divisible means that when u divides a number with other number then remainder left is 0
like take two numbers 7 and 49 , when we divide 49 by 7 remainder is 0
but when we divide 50 by 7 remainder is 1 so 50 is not divisible by 7 but 49 is divisible by 7

Yes, I get that. But will we also consider the negative multiples? ie, is -7 divisible by 7?

i dont think so that divisibilty is valid for integers but i am not sur i will tell u when i got it completely
