The linear differential equation that you`re provided with is not always directly integrable. You have to multiply the whole equation with a factor i.e. the integrating factor in order to make the equation more easily integrable.

while solving differential equations , we face the problem of inexact differential form , so finding the solution is very difficult task for us . Here comes our Integration Factor (I.F .) , it makes that inexact equation to exact
differential equation , which can be solvable by various methods . That means I.F. makes the equation integrated to give scalar field .
