There are no such important formulae, you will have to remember everything. 
Chain rule means  differentiating complex terms in a series.
for example : dy/dx of xn =  n.xn-1 ,
but dy/dx of (sinx)n  = n.sinxn-1.cosx
this means...apply xn rule first taking sinx=x, then differentiate sinx.
hence chain rule means a chain of differentiation. differentiate the outer most term first...n then move inwards.
