This is 0/0 form.
You can use L'hospital rule
 
Now it becomes
 
(P+1) *x^p - p -1 /2 (x-1)
 
Again using L hospital
 
p(p+1) x^(p-1)/ 2
 
Now put limit x=1
 
p(p+1)/2
