What is critical point how it is different from externum points?

How many critical , externum points does it have f(x)=1/x

Dear vikash,

If f(x) has a local extremum at c, then either

\begin{displaymath}f'(c) = 0\;\;\mbox{or $f'(c)$ does not exist.}\end{displaymath}


These points are called critical points.
