All branches are good in IIT. However if you are very particular about branch then go for VIT.
According to your rank in IIT ,you won''t get any good branch in IIT.It depends on you that if you want to be an iitian or you will go for another college where you can get a good branch.
MY ADVICE-Go for VIT mechanical as VIT is also a good institute and I think ACCORDING TO YOUR RANK YOU CAN GET INTO "NIT" which is as good as IIT
And if you want to go in VIT THEN it is also a good option
