Eukaryotic cells do not contain restriction endonucleases. It is present in a prokaryotic cell especially bacteria. The main role of this enzyme is in defense mechanism to restrict the growth of bacteriophages by cutting the viral DNA. However, eukaryotes have other mechanisms to control the entry of viruses.
