Biofortification is the scientific idea of increasing nutritional value of crops through modern biotechnology techniques.As malnutrition is one of the major problem in worldwide; these bio fortification programme along with conventional breeding and nutritional modification have become first choice of researchers. Examples of biofortified crops are:
- iron-biofortification of rice, beans, sweet potato and legumes;
- zinc-biofortification of wheat, rice, beans, sweet potato and maize;
- provitamin A carotenoid-biofortification of sweet potato, maize.
- amino acid and protein-biofortification of sourghum.
