Gregor Mendel is known as the Father of Genetics. He worked on pea plants and discovered the fundamental laws of inheritance.
His three laws are the law of dominance, the law of segregation and the law of independent assortment.
He deduced that genes come in pairs and are inherited as distinct units, one from each parent.
