  • Pressure potential is the positive pressure developed in a system due to osmotic entry of water into it.
  • The value of pressure potential is equal to the value of turgor pressure.
  • Pressure potential is negative in a plasmolysed cell and xylem vessel, positive for a turgid cell and zero for a flaccid cell.
  • If a plant cell is placed in a hypertonic solution, the plant cell loses water and hence turgor pressure by plasmolysis. The pressure decreases to the point where the protoplasm of the cell peels away from the cell wall, leaving gaps or voids between the cell wall and the membrane and making the plant cell flaccid.
