Hydrostatic pressure is the pressure exerted by a fluid at equilibrium at a given point within the fluid due to the force of gravity. So, positive pressure is exerted toward the grvity and negetive pressure exerted against the gravity.
Now, gradient is the actually the difference in levels. For e.g., Pressure gradient (difference in pressure ), Concentration gradient (difference in concentration) etc.
