Secondary productivity is the rate of formation of new organic matter by consumers. Whether they are primary consumers or secondary consumers.
Here re-synthesis of organic matter by primary consumers is converting the plant matter into flesh, milk, etc(by herbivores) and to compost, simple organic matter(by decomposers). And re-synthesis by secondary consumers is converting the matter they consume(herbivore/carnivore animals) into the complex organic compounds/matter they produce. I.e. flesh, eggs, milk etc.
