What do you mean by scutellum?explain in short..Sir please answer urgently

Hi ! prasad,
              It is the characterestic features of monocot only.The monocot consists of a large and shield shaped cotyledon known as scutellum.
It is an out growth of germinating grass seed that probably represents the cotyledon.

single thin cotyledon ( seed leaf ) of monocots , especially of grasses are called as scutellum . 
|it is involving in absorbing nutrients from the endosperm . 
its other function is to transferiing it to the growing embryo during seed germination .
