What do plant movements tell us? What are their importance?

The movements that I am referring to are Spontaneous movements such as nutation and nastic movements; paratonic movements such as thermotactic, chemotactic and phototactic movements
Can someone explain the overall significance of studying these plant motions? Do they maybe show a plant’s growth rate? Or show a plant’s development in resistance to external environmental threats? Please help!
Thank you for your time.
