Relating to cells, what is homphilic binding?Does it helps in tissue formation?

Homophilic binding is a type of binding in which the cell adhesion molecules bind to those of the same type in other cells, so that cells of the same class adhere to each other . This will help in forming tissue aggregates or layers, as seen in epithelia.

Cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) are proteins located on the cell surface involved in binding with other cells or with the extracellular matrix (ECM) in the process called cell adhesion. In essence, cell adhesion molecules help cells stick to each other and to their surroundings.
