An organism in which celloulose is completely absent in its cell wall is said to hav a non-cellulosic cell wall. In such organisms cellulose may be replaced with some other component as pectins (d‐galacturonans) and hemicelluloses (d‐xylans, d‐glucans, d‐mannans, etc.). This case is specifically found in most of marine algae ,namely species of Bryopsis, Caulerpa, Udotea, Halimeda and Penicillus and of one freshwater alga, Dichotomosiphon. Non cellulosic cell wall function is to act as pressure vessels, preventing over-expansion of the cell when water enters
