Natural Selection was not dubbed by Charles Darwin, but it was his explanation for evolution. It is generally referred to as the mode of evolution. It is widely accepted today, but the finer points of the theory are still being debated. In general Natural Selection is when a gene mutation occurs in an individual that gives that individual better chances of survival or mating. The theory is that because this individual has better chances of surviving and mating that this gene mutation will be passed on to subsequent generations. This is also known as "survival of the fittest." (a term also not coined by Darwin)
