The standard equation of a hyperbola is x ^2/a^ 2 – y ^2/b^ 2 = 1 where b^2 = a^2(e^2 - 1).
So , iT is Hyperbola

On squaring
y² = x² -4
Hence x² -y² = 4
x² /4 - y²/4 = 1
Hence it is hyeprbola
Or we should specifically say that it is a branch of hyperbola
