equation of circle =

(x – 4)(x + 2) + (y –7)(y + 1) = 0

Now if the circle cut the x axis hence put y = 0

x^2 – 2x – 8 – 7 = 0

x^2 – 2x – 15 = 0

(x – 5) (x + 3) = 0

hence

x = 5 and x = –3

thus points are (5, 0) and ( –3, 0)

thus AB = 8 unit
