While calculating square roots of some functions, why do we usually ignore the negative values? For example while I was solving a question of quadratic equations, the value of a function f(x)=(x4+20)1/2 came out to be 6 and -7.When I saw the solution, it had stated that f(x) will not be -7.Why?

-7 is not considered as the function you have is a square root and square root cant give negative values so -7 is neglected
