obviously the given answer x=3.14 is wrong bcoz the LHS would be negative at this value while RHS would be positive.
put y= – x/2
so given eqn becomes 
1+5y= e^y
draw graphs of z=e^y and z= 1+5y. and note their intersections.
obviously they intersect at y=0 or x=0.
further, there shall be one more solution of y=2.66 or x= – 5.32

I think for equation,
1 – 0.25 x = exp(-0.5x)
x = 3.14
