Dear student 
Z= x+iy 
mag of 2z-i = (2(x+iy) -i )
2x + 2iy -i => sqrt (4x^2 + (2y-1)^2 )
mag of z+1 = sqrt((x+1)^2 + y^2) 
The vlue of k must be equal to 2 , to cancel the non linear term , to make it straight line.
