Let the number be t . When it is divided by 72, the remainder is 10.
Now t is divided by 9, i.e.,
(72m + 10) / 9 = 72m / 9 + 10 / 9
72m is divisible by 9, so there is no remainder in this case.
But 10 is not divisible by 9, so there is remainder 1 in this case.

Let the number being divided be x, then x=72q+10 where q is the quotient.When x is divided by 9,x/9 = (72q+10)/9x/9=8q+10/9.72q leaves no remainder when it is divided by 9 but 10 will leave a remainder 1.Therefore answer is 1.
